SocialStars

Social Stars Volunteer Interest Form

When you join our Social Stars Program you will be paired with a social worker in your county who you will offer encouragement to by way of letters, texts, encouraging notes and small gifts as they continue to fight on the frontlines for the most vulnerable children in your area.

Social Star Program Overview, Commitment, & Guidelines:

Commitment: As a Social Supporter, our desire is for you to provide encouragement and support for your social worker(s) through the remainder of this calendar year. These forms of encouragement might look like thoughtful emails, letters, flowers from your yard, a candy bar, or a $5 coffee card.  At the end of each year, you will have the opportunity to renew your commitment or step down from the program.

Communication: As various personalities come together, it is inevitable that each relationship will look different. We believe in and want to encourage tactful management of expectations with grace and in love in order to foster a successful relationship. We encourage your creativity and autonomy, but we do ask that you allow time for the relationship to grow naturally and organically; keeping in mind the demands that a heavy workload, long days, and odd working hours might have on your social worker.

We ask that you continue to communicate on a regular monthly basis, as appropriate for your relationship.

Guidelines: You will receive a "Meet Your Social Star" document that lists some helpful contact information and a little bit about them. Please do not share or publish this private information, unless you are sharing with other members of your Social Star group.

While we recognize that you are a person of faith, your social worker may not be. Please be wary not to solely base your encouragement on faith-based content, though you are free to eventually do so as you get to know your social worker and based on the nature of the relationship you develop with them.

We look forward to seeing the great ideas you may have in mind to support your social worker and we will be sharing more along the way. However, we ask that you follow these important guidelines set forth by DSS:

  • Gift card denominations cannot exceed $20 at one time.

  • Monetary gifts and gift cards cannot exceed $100 total in one calendar year.

  • Cash gifts are NOT allowed.

  • All "snail mail" or deliveries should be sent to the social worker's office location unless otherwise specified.

We are grateful for your partnership, and we are excited to have you on board as a Social Star Volunteer!
